Happy Summer

Summer is in full swing around here, and so many fun things have been going on around here! June will always be one of my favorite months of the year since I celebrate both Kyle and I's anniversary and my birthday (hello, presents!). This June, Kyle and I celebrated our fifth anniversary and my 30th birthday. What better way to ring in these momentous milestones than head to Vegas? We had a blast and enjoyed THREE whole days/nights sans kiddos. It was delightful and much needed. It seems like every weekend this summer has brought something fun, whether it's a birthday party, getaway, or some other celebration. It's definitely made this summer FLY by! Here are some other activities we've been doing...

We have also successfully moved the girls into real life, big girl beds! I found two (originally brown) Jenny Lind twin beds on Craigslist. How on earth I got that lucky, I'll never know. Nonetheless, we spray painted them white and could not be happier with them; especially for a $175 price tag! I promise to do a post on their new room once it is completed. I am loving it so far, and it's been SO much fun to decorate!

Burke {10 & 11 months}

I've said it once, and I'll say it again, I am amazed at the lack of free time I have these days. There for awhile, the girls and Burke shared an afternoon nap, but lately that is a rare occurrence (hence, not much time for updating this thing). Although our little late bloomer in the mobility department still sticks to only cruising around the furniture (no crawling or walking), I feel like he's right on the cusp of becoming full on mobile (AAAAH!). In the last week, we have also started attempting to potty train our other little late bloomer in the potty training department, Sophie. Actually, I wouldn't say she's a late bloomer as much as a stubborn little toot. She's making some great strides and we are hoping she will be full on potty trained pretty soon! We also recently transitioned the girls to toddler beds which has been hilarious, frustrating, and yet another great reminder that our baby girls are turning into big girls, and reminding us frequently of their strong desire for independence. Other than them goofing off and being little rebels for 30 minutes-hour when going down for a nap or bed, they now take pretty good naps and sleep all night in them without an issue. Thank goodness. The only big thing left for us to tackle with them is, you guessed it, pacifiers.

Oh, pacifiers. If I was brave enough, I would just make a bonfire in our backyard and toss them into it. But alas, after trying several times to rid our house of them and seeing the insane fits that ensue, our next approach has to be a good one. Once we get Sophie good and potty trained we will move onto that. Oy.

It's so funny to me to look at his 10 and 11 month pics together. For one, it appears his new found love of cruising all around the furniture has maybe caused him to lose a bit of chub in his face? And secondly, it's hilarious how much more expressive he has become in the last month. In the above pic, he is doing what I call his courtesy laugh. And below...

Can you say ornery face? He has this new look he gives me when I tell him "no." Like when he tries to grab the spoon when I'm feeding him or here when he kept trying to grab the chalkboard. And of course is fascinated with what this "no" word means, so he likes to keep doing it...little stinker.

He has been getting so good at drinking out of the sippy cup lately. Today we started the transition from formula to whole milk. Fingers crossed he switches as easily as his sisters did!

When we took the front of their cribs off, Kyle thought it would be awesome to push them together and make one giant crib. Needless to say, he didn't get his wish.

Although our summer days have felt anything but lazy lately, I'll take 'em!

Hot and Cold

Well if you're an Oklahoman reading this, you know the craziness that is the weather in our state. It seems as though spring can't decide for sure if it wants to stay for good. Or really at this point, summer. While I was a psychology major in college, I learned about a condition called Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Basically, it's when the weather (to the extreme) determines people's mood/depression, and those affected become deeply depressed during the winter months. Or something along those lines. Anyways, like any good psychology major, I often refer to many of these disorders I learned about and convince myself I have one or more of them. This one in particular. It's crazy how on the nice days, nothing can go wrong. My children are perfect little glorious creatures, frolicking through the grass, licking popsicle off their fingers, sharing their toys. Perfection. And then the next day, we awake to frost on the lawn and me squeezing their feet into the winter shoes we have outgrown because good grief, what mom is going to buy cold weather shoes in May? And Mommy losing her mind 100 times a day because everyone is angry and bitter they can't go play outside.

It's just been craziness.

However, on these glorious warm days, I can't seem to take enough pictures of my half-dressed little sweeties enjoying the sun and warm breeze. And keep repeating to myself that this cold front is the last one of the season. It has to be, right?

Burke had discovered and now subsequently LOVES Teddy. His favorite place to be is propped up on the ottoman so he can try to grab him or pull his tail. Teddy of course is such a good sport about pesky kids messing with him constantly.

The girls had their spring program this past month at Mother's Day Out. Don't they look thrilled? Campbell kept yawning, and Sophie got irritated because one of the kids behind her kept hitting her pony tail. These wouldn't be near as much fun to watch if my kids ever did what they were supposed to do. ;)

Campbell is a golf fanatic. Anytime she sees Kyle walk out the back door with his golf club, she quickly follows behind. She could hit golf balls for hours with him! This of course makes both Kyle and I's hearts so happy. I hope all of our kids enjoy playing golf to some degree so we can do it as a family someday.

So the other day when we got home from the gym, Burke went down for a nap and I thought I could maybe enjoy the warm weather/my Sonic drink and book while the girls rode their tricycles on the driveway. However, within minutes, the girls demanded I get their chairs and sunglasses so they could sit next to me and be "like Mommy." Oh how I love them.

This morning, we made an honest effort to try and make it to the March of Dimes walk to support our sweet friends, the Gaines, but the darn cold ruined that plan. I just had to get a pic of the girls in the darling shirts Megan had made, though! We had such a great time doing it last year and being part of team Double Gainers, we were bummed to miss it this year. Hoping the weather cooperates next year! 

Hopefully I'll get around to taking Burke's monthly pic soon (3 days late at this point). Until then, please join me in praying the glorious sun and warmth come back soon...and stick around.
